The year was 1971. My first car was 1968 Chevrolet Chevelle SS396 with 325 horsepower,4 speed with a Hurst Competition
Plus w/reverse lockout. Color- Gold with black stripes, bucket seats, posi rearend with 4.10 gears.
Numbers matching? Yes.
Was it fast? Yes.
Chick magnet- The driver? No. The car? Yes!
Memories-Lawrence Perry (my uncle and our esteemed club president) helping me rebuild the motor over the winter
of 1971-1972. Also his giving me enough rope to hang myself as I struggled thru the process while remaining in
charge so I would not veer too far off course.
And there was the time I fired it up for Mike Tubbs late on a Friday night while it was stored in Uncle Lawrence's
garage (Headers only). Boy did I catch (*@#"+*!) ! from my Aunt Dort.
Then, sadly I had to make a choice between college or the car and well, RIT won out.
Purchase price: $1200.00
Selling price: same.
Value to me: Priceless.
Thanks for the memories Uncle Lawrence.
Sorry about the error in judgement that Friday night Aunt Dort.
