It was a great Fall day with crisp morning air and a beautiful sunrise. At the Wolcott McDonalds was a short line of about 10 cars that let you know that some sort of car event was happening, happening today. The club had our annual Fall cruise and it was going to be about a 300 mile round trip and I was amazed at how few cars showed up on what, to me, was a perfect day for cruising. We got together across the street at the Ford dealership and waited for more people to show. In all, we had only around 15 cars but they were nice pieces.Phil and Linda Eygnor lead us all off with their new GT 500 Shelby and Phil's son Will, with his lovely girlfriend brought out his SWEET Roush Mustang so Ford was well represented. Dick and Lois Benham drove their GT 500 to Stoneybrook so they brought out the Ford Delivery (when you have as much sweet iron as they do, you should change up every cruise) Larry and Dort Perry brought the "Super Pumpkin" '56 Chevy and Ron and Donna Warrick went with the 'Vette as did Jim and Wendy Wedman and Bob and Cyndi Fowler.Floyd and Eileen rolled out the SWEET 39 and Ed brought a couple of friends to ride in his '67 Nova. Larry and Sharon Yonker brought out the "Lady Bug", ran the whole trip and probably still won't need gas 'til Wednesday. Skip and Brenda Miller joined us with this really clean Five-O 'Stang that purred like a kitten and look like million. Jerry Baker came up from Florida to run that gorgeous green Big-Block Camaro. Tom and Nancy Hamilton brought some friends to ride along in thier nicely dressed out Impala and I sacrificed power for economy and drove my IROC-Z.
Once on the road we had our own little parade workin', turning heads every where we went as we took in a slice of Americana all the way up to the North country. The drive was beautiful with winding roads and brilliant color for most of the trip. Stops for fuel and restroom breaks took a while and we joked about trailering a "Porta-Potty" on the next cruise. We had a '66 Charger join us for a short while (just happened to be going our way) and when we turned off, I'd bet that he would've loved to have kept going with us.We had lunch at a little place in Old Forge and, to my surprise, that town was jumpin'! We filled the place up and some of us even ate at the outside tables since the weather had warmed up into the 70's. Afterwards, we did a little shopping at some of the shops in town and then pulled out around 3:00 to head back, I pulled my roof panels out and one or two others put their top down before we hit the road. We stopped in Lowville for gas and restroom breaks. Jerry got a whopping 7.9 miles per gallon with the Camaro and even had a bit of a gas line leak that had us worried for a minute there. We had to push start Larry's '56 to get it going, something with the charging system I guess. I think the place just had some bad Musclecar mojo workin'.Heading down Route 177 we got to see the wind mill generators on some of the farm land and there had to be a hundred them. Most of them were not moving at the time but they were still cool,I think they're going to be a big part of our energy supply in the near future. We stopped in fulton to refuel (Jerry's third fill -up) and I got gas myself. I was satisfied with my 24 mpg after seeing Jerry's 7.9 but I'd still like to have his power! Some of us split off to head for home or other places to eat and some us went to Sweet Inspirations for bite and some more chat time before venturing back to good ol' Wayne county. By then, night had fallen and the stars were out, the air, once again brisk,The car felt good going through the gears. It was a perfect day for cruising. - Dan Davis
